Title
Interior ceilings and walls in William Andrews Clark memorial Library, Los Angeles, 1926
Description
Interior ceilings and walls in William Andrews Clark memorial Library, 1926, 2520 Cimarron Street (at West Adams Boulevard). The god Apollo and the Nine Muses adorn the vestibule, meant as a tribune to Clark's love of the humanities. Eleven paintings in the Drawing Room are the scenes from Dryden's "All For Love", Clark's favorite play. The panel on the south wall depicts Shakespeare's "Antony and Cleopatra", from which "All For Love" was adapted. The inset, mostly octagonal ceiling paintings in green, is of Ovid's "Metamorphosis". In oil by Allyn Cox -- Dunitz, Street gallery, rev. 2nd ed., p. 207, #1.
