Description
Photograph of a drawing by Vischer depicting a Spanish ranch scene in Marin County, ten miles north of San Rafael, ca.1860. A two story ranch house with a covered porch is visible on a hill on the right side of the picture, overlooking a cattle drive below. There are three very organized rows of cattle being hereded by a group of mounted vaqueros, all wearing broad-brimmed hats. On the left side of the picture, several cows are resting in the shade of a large tree. There are hills in the background, populated by tall pine trees. At the center of the picture behind the cattle drive is a barn attached to a corral, and in the corral, a mounted cowboy is trying to rope a loose horse.
