Photograph of men standing in path at Oakmont Botanical Garden, [s.d.]. In the extreme foreground, a curved path can be seen extending into the background at right. To the left and right of the path, tall trees with many dead branches can be seen. Additional shrubs and vegetation are also visible. In the background at center, four men wearing suits can be seen standing at the center of the path. One man at the left stands with his arms crossed and faces the camera. The other three men, seen wearing hats, face one another. In the extreme background a single mountain range can be seen. Photonegative appears to have been marked with some foreign object as it was developed.

Description The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
