Description
Photograph of an exterior view of El Cuartel, the oldest adobe building in Santa Barbara, ca.1940. The north facade of the building can be seen at right, while an arched gate can be seen at center. Vines can be seen growing over the wall which runs from the gate to the left, while a late 1930's automobile can be seen parked on the street at left. Trees and power lines are visible in the background. Originally a guard house at Royal Presidio, later home of the Valenzuela family. Caption on back, "Santa Barbara - Adobe home said to have been home of one of the officers of the Presidio." An earlier record identifies the home as the "oldest remaining building at Santa Barbara Presidio".
