Description
The Negro in California history. Panel 2: settlement and development, 1949, Golden State Mutual Life Insurance Company, interior lobby, 1999 West Adams Boulevard (at Western Avenue), 2 panels. The second panel covers approximately 1850-1949. With less focus on individual heroes. It depicts gold miners, Boulder Dam construction workers, Pony Express riders, etc. Restored in 1985 by Richard Wyatt, because the paint was cracking. Oil on canvas (on right as enter lobby from street) by Hale Woodruff. Sponsored by the Golden State Mutual Life Insurance Company -- Dunitz, Street gallery, rev. 2nd ed., p. 212, #13 B (photo on p. 203).
