Description
Detail 2 of 3 of Mother Watts, Watts, 1988. Watts Towers Arts Center, exterior, 1727 East 107th Street (between Willowbrook Avenue and Alameda Street), Watts. Cox and four young people painted this mural without a pre-drawn design. Their inspiration was all around them -- from the houses across the street to the tires discarded along the nearby train tracks to the helicopters that frequently buzz overhead. Each color was applied in layers, somewhat like animation cels are drawn. By Anthony Cox and local youth. -- Dunitz, Street gallery, rev. 2nd ed., p. 234, #21.
