Title
Homage to the Harbor District Japanese American pioneers, West Long Beach, 1995
Description
Homage to the Harbor District Japanese American pioneers, West Long Beach, 1995. Harbor District Japanese Community Center, exterior, 1766 Seabright Avenue (near Pacific Coast Highway), West Long Beach. Dedicated to the Japanese Americans of the Harbor District, this mural reflects their immigration experience, their little-known agricultural and industrial fishing contributions, their unjust treatment during World War II, their re-assimilation back into society, the cultural and martial arts classes offered at the center, and an "Odon Odori" dance of "Life and Harmony." Acrylic, 9 panels, 860 square feet, by Trace Tres Fukuhara. -- Dunitz, Street gallery, rev. 2nd ed., p. 271, #82.
