Description
Photograph of sunken ground near a post office after an earthquake, [s.d.]. The corner of two cobblestone streets can be seen at center with faint images of people walking across them at center. Debris is piled on the right while the ground has fallen to a lower level on the left. The drop in the ground level occurs just in front of the brick post office building on the far left.

Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960
Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
