Description
Icebreaker coming to McMurdo Station, Antarctica, 1995.; America's first Antarctic base, Little America I, was built in 1929 on the Ross Ice Shelf under the direction of Richard Byrd. Currently (2002) the largest settlement on the continent is McMurdo Station, where the summer population swells to over 1,000 people. The small town has ATMs, a post office, and even a fire station.
