Description
Photograph of a birdseye view of Los Angeles looking north-east and showing Main Street, ca. 1930. Many two- and three-story buildings can be seen as the city sprawls across the entire image. The buildings are separated by a grid of wide, unpaved streets, many of which have streetcar tracks in the middle. Early-model automobiles can be seen parked along the sides of the streets. In the background, low hills are visible. A stand of trees can be seen at left, and a railroad yard is visible at center. Compares to CHS-37330 & CHS-48623, which show the same scene at slightly different times.; Legible signs include, from left: "Dante Hotel", "Autobank 10th and Grand", "The Braun Corporation Laboratory Outfitters", "Schireson Bros", "St. Elmo Hotel", "Brunswig Drug Co.", "Lumber", and "F. See On Co.".; Originally, the image was captioned as "Birdseye view of Los Angeles near the intersection of Tenth Street and Grand Avenue, [s.d.]".
