Description
Photograph of the interior of the library at the home of Madame Helena Modjeska, ca.1905. The library is cozy and lavishly decorated, with numerous pictures on the walls, a buffalo head and metal plates hanging on the brick fireplace, a rug on the floor in front of a sofa, and, of course, books on glass-covered sheves. A woman, presumably Modjeska, is sitting in a chair in an alcove on the left side of the room. There is a round table in the foreground that features carved creatures for its legs.
