Description
Photograph of the exterior of American Consul Thomas Larkin's home in Monterey, ca.1901. The house was built in 1834 and inhabited by Larkin, the first and only United States Consul to California. The mission-style house has adobe walls and wooden frames around the windows and doors. It has a porch that wraps around the front and side of the house, covered by an overhanging roof. Ivy is growing up all of the posts that support the wrap-around balcony, reaching the height of the balcony on four of the posts. The street in front of the house is not paved, and has been heavily marked by wagon wheels.
