Description
Photograph of a view of Clay Street, showing earthquake damage, [s.d.]. The wide street lies at center with a heavily damaged building behind the sidewalk on the right. On the left a man in a hat stands behind a Singer sewing machine and a pump organ with debris piled around him along the sidewalk and electrical lines extending over head. Two people stand in the street facing the background where several others can be seen viewing the damaged buildings down the road. A church stands in front of the mountains in the distance.

Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960
Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
