Photograph of a Southern Pacific advertisement for their Golden State Limited train, [s.d.]. A drawing of men and women seated under a canopy on a non-enclosed railway car can be seen at center. The back of a cowboy riding a horse can be seen in the foreground. Photonegative sleeve reads, "S.P. Lord Thomas J. Logan. Printed".; Advertisement reads, "Serving Directly Arizona's Gay Guest Ranchers. 'Golden State Limited.' Chicago -- Kansas City -- Los Angeles -- San Diego. Straight across the Spanish--American Southwest. No train to Southern California faster or finer. Through sleepers to Apache Trail highway, Phoenix desert resorts and Santa Barbara. Only Southern Pacific offers choice of four routes to and from California. See the whole Pacific Coast. Go one way, return another, on 'Golden State Limited', 'Sunset Limited', 'San Francisco Overland Limited', or 'The Cascade'. Southern Pacific. Four Great Routes. California Historical Society Collection, 1860-1960
Description
The California Historical Society Collection is incomparable for the documentary picture it provides of the growth of Southern California, particularly the development of the Los Angeles region, between 1860 and 1960. The collection contains more than 25,000 photographs. The full archive was placed on long-term deposit at USC in 1990 and includes the Title Insurance and Trust Company Collection, also known as TICOR, and the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection.
