Photograph of a view of the portal to one of the four, 56-foot diversion tunnels for the Hoover Dam, [s.d.]. At center, a large cavern is cut into bedrock, supported by circular scaffolding. At left, wooden framework supports a conveyor belt.; Caption reads: "View of portal of one of the four 56-foot diversion tunnels. These tunnels, each approximately 4,000 feet in length are being lined with three-feet of concrete and will be used to divert the waters of the Colorado River during the construction of Hoover Dam." Photoprint reads: "Los Angeles Aqueduct construction, [s.d.]."

Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960
Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
