Description
Photograph of Lockheed F-94C jet in flight, ca.1960. At center, a large jet is visible in flight. The body of the plane is nearly perfectly symmetrical, except for the rounded nose. Two star-shaped emblems are visible both on the body of the plane and the edge of the right wing. On the edge of each wing, a large cylindrical object in the shape of a missile can be seen. Above the narrow beak, a glass-covered cockpit is visible. Near the tail of the plane, the large jet engine attached to the body can be seen. The description on the back of the photoprint reads: "F-94C Breathes Fire. Here is a new close up of air view of the Lockheed F-94C Starfire, whooshing for home after rocket firing tests. Note smoke stains on nose rocket doors just back of the black radome. Starfire is the first plane to carry rocket armament in the nose. This air force jet interceptor can pour a 24 rocket barrage at enemy bombers. Designed to operate almost entirely automatically the 600 mile per hour ship is one of the most highly electronified aircraft ever built. Electronics even relieve pilot of aiming the plane -- and its rockets. One rocket can destroy the biggest bomber".

Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
