Photograph of five men looking at a map near a plane, showing one man in informal attire, ca.1930. At center, a group of five men can be seen looking at a small map. Four of the men in the picture can be seen wearing formal suits, ties, and hats. The man on the far left is seen wearing a small cap, a leather jacket, and rolled-up pants. Two of the men in the center hold a small map, which all the men are seen looking towards. The man in the center also holds a large wooden stick with papers fastened to both ends. In the background behind the men, a plane with an open hatch is visible.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
