Title Four men posing with a pilot in a U.S. Air Mail plane, ca.1925

Description Photograph of four men posing with a pilot in a U.S. Air Mail plane, ca.1925. At center, a group of four men wearing formal attire and ties can be seen standing beside a pilot seated in the cockpit of a plane. The pilot is seen wearing the traditional pilot's cap with goggles across his forehead. The second man on the left is seen staring at a small letter in his hand. Similarly to his right, one of the men is seen holding out a small letter to the pilot. Between the four men standing on the ground, a small emblem on the side of the plane in the shape of two wings is seen with the words "U.S. Air Mail" inscribed.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
