Description

Photograph of Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce map of airports, 1927. At center, image shows map detailing the locations of numerous airports within Los Angeles. The borders of the map extend to Huntington Beach, Pomona, and the San Fernando Valley. Lines on the map detail the location of streets and freeways. Bolded font indicates the location of cities and places of interest. Additionally, small black circles with pictures of white planes are seen over locations where airports were present on the map.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
