Photograph of two women in bathing suits overlooking Avalon Bay on Catalina Island, [s.d.]. The two women can be seen on a hill at right under a small tree. One is seated on the ground while the other stands behind her. Both are looking to the left. In the background at center, a large ship is tied to a pier in the middle of the harbor, while many smaller vessels can be seen moored nearby. The large cylindrical casino building is in the background at right. At left, the city of Avalon can be seen at the foot of a steep hill. Several small buildings are visible on the slope of a hill in the foreground.

Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960
Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
