Description Photograph of a pilot posing with a dog in a cockpit, ca.1925. At center, a man is seen with a dog posing in the open cockpit of a biplane. The man is seen wearing a darkly-colored shirt, sweater, and a tie. He is also seen wearing a traditional pilot's cap with goggles on his forehead. Small straps are visible across the chest and midsection of the small, spotted pug in his lap. The man points with his hand off to the right. Both his gaze and the gaze of his dog look onward to the distance. In the background, several poles and wires are visible. In the immediate foreground, a banner on the plane with the word "Dedication" is visible.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
