Description

Photograph of a drawing of a U.S. Air Force SM-62 Northrop Snark, ca.1960. At center, a large rocket ship is visible blasting-off the ground tilting slightly to the left. The darkly-colored ship's main body is nearly cylindrical, except for the pointed nose at its top and rounded bulb at its bottom. Two large wings are attached to the ship with small pointed cylinders beneath the wings. Two large cylindrical containers are seen against the ship's main body. These containers are seen propelling the ship off the ground. In the foreground, a small wooden structure and ladder are visible. In the background, clouds of dark smoke can be seen.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
