Description

Photograph of an exterior view of the Los Angeles Soap Company building, ca. 1920. A five-story industrial style building and a portion of an adjacent four-story building can be seen in the background, behind two freight cars that can be seen in the immediate foreground. A fire escape can be seen running down the center of the five story building, from the roof to the second level. Legible signs include the following: "the home of White King Soap", and "Automobile and furniture".

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
