Description

Photograph of an exterior view of a large structure with brick walls covered in ivy in most areas, [s.d.]. A building with an arched window above its gated double-door entrance, and ivy-coated walls stand at center with a small staircase leading up to it at right. The structure stretches right, showing a two-story area lined with small windows, while a foliated area appears at left. Branches of a tree stretch into the extreme right foreground, and the tree's shadow can be seen on the grass before the structure.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
