Description
Photograph of an exterior view of the Mission Santa Barbara, ca.1900. The mission is pictured a little into the distance at center, showing its broad side. The main building is flanked to the left and right by attached bell towers which sport domes. Beyond the entranceway, the adobe building's brick is unspackled. A patio covers the cloisters and extends to the left from the entranceway, its shingled roof contrasting to the main building's terracotta tiles. An L-shaped formation of other, one-story adobe buildings is visible up the hill farther in the foreground, apparently in disrepair near a crumbling wall. More buildings of similar construction are visible behind the mission to the left, along with a few two- to three-story buildings that can be seen in the clearing in the distance. Rubble litters the hill in the foreground. Mountains are visible in the background.
