Title
U.S. Coast Survey showing the California coast from the Santa Barbara Channel to Point Gorda, 1864
Description
Photograph of a map from a U.S. Coast Survey showing the California coast from the Santa Barbara Channel to Point Gorda, 1864. There are five drawings of coastal rock outcroppings or mountains: the first is in the center of the picture at the top and its caption reads, "View of Piedra Blancas W. 3/4 N. (Compass) 4 miles"; the picture directly below that reads, "View of Moro Rock, Estero Bay, N. by E. (Compass) 10 miles"; the one below that reads, "View of Pt. Sal bearing N. by W. (Compass) 4 miles"; the one below that reads, "View of pt. Arguello bearing S.S.E. (Compass) 4 miles"; and the one to the right of that reads, "Lt. Ho. Pt. Concepcion View Pt.". This image compares to CHS-10000, CHS-10001 and CHS-10003; other maps of California coast from same coast survey.; The map shows the coast reaching diagonally across the image from the upper left to the bottom right corner, and includes many place names (from left to right): Point Gorda, Piearas Blancas, San Simeon, Estero Bay, Moro Rock, Pt. Buchon, Monte del Buchon, Pt. San Luis, San Luis Obispo, Pt. Sal, Pt. Purisima, Pt. Arguello, Pt. Concepcion, Lt. Ho., San Miguel, Cuyler's Harbor, Santa Rosa, Santa Cruz, Lt. House, Santa Barbara, Mission, prisoner's Harbor, Anacapa, Pt. Heuneme, Buenaventura, lguna, Pt. Mugu, Santa Clara River, Mission of San Fernando, Pt. Duma, Bahia Oua, San Pedro. There is also a long caption in the upper right corner but it is unreadable as it is cut in half.
