Photograph of a view of Avalon showing Marrilla Terrace and a tract of new homes, 1926. Many small Spanish-style buildings with terracotta tile roofs can be seen near the base of a hill at center. The hill is at left and is mostly bare. At right, older buildings can be seen. Unpaved roads are visible between many of the structures. The ocean is visible in the background at center.

Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960
Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
