Description

Photograph of group of biplanes flying in formation, ca.1950. At center, a group of eighteen identical biplanes can be seen flying in a large pointed formation. Two sets of wings and a frontal propeller is visible on each biplane. Also, a small emblem in the shape of a star can be seen on the top surface of each wing. The planes are darkly-colored, and stripes of varying colors can be seen on the wingspan above the body of the plane. In the background, large clouds fill the sky where the planes fly.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
