Description
Whittier and Indiana mural, East Los Angeles, 1972. "The Whittier and Indiana mural, done on the walls of Marion's Five and Ten, at 3801 Whittier Boulevard in East Los Angeles was painted by Gilbert Lujan in 1972 with spray can and roller. It was executed as part of the Street Mural Project sponsored by the Los Angeles County Department Parks and Recreation Cultural Arts Department, a group which works in coordination with about 20 youth corp workers, replacing graffiti on recreation buildings. An interesting sidelight is the fact that since many of the projects involve members of warring gangs, many hours must be spent in trust sessions before painting begins." -- Environmental Communications, Street paintings of Los Angeles, unpaged, #49.
