Title
Vision and tradition, South Gate, 1995
Description
Vision and tradition, South Gate, 1995. South Gate Park, parking lot, Pinehurst Avenue near Tweedy Boulevard, South Gate. The mural is about honoring the traditions of indigenous peoples, particularly in the Americas. It charts the passage of time throughout the day and the seasons. There is a Guatemalan back-strap weaver. In the North, a Nez Perce bag flows into an Osage blanket, and towards the East, an eagle dancer of the Plains dances on a Navajo rug. The Mayans and Aztecs represent the traditions of the South, and the Chumash depict those of the West. The faces are portraits of the artist's students. Photo on page 227). Acrylic, cylinder, by Jane Boyd. -- Dunitz, Street gallery, rev. 2nd ed., p. 237, #32.
