In the foreground sits a plane on the south ramp of the airport's new jet age passenger terminal. The plane is marked "Continental Airlines" on its side and "Golden Jet Continental" on its tail. Behind the plane, the "great parabolic arches of futuristic theme structure form impressive backdrop" to the left. Beside it stands a tower with the number 7 on it. To the right of the background is a large car parking lot lined with street lamps. In the distance, several structures can be made out, and a residential part of the city can be seen beyond that. Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
