Description
Photograph of a view of Calle de Los Negros (Negro Alley, colloquially referred to as "Nigger Alley" at the time), looking north, Los Angeles, ca.1882. A dilapidated adobe stands on the corner to the left, losing its spackle, while shop fronts stand along the street to the right. Horse-drawn carriages are parked in a large group in the distance while a lone carriage makes its way down the unpaved street towards the camera, a pedestrian in front of it. Utility poles are visible.
