Description
Photograph of a view of 6th Street looking west from Los Angeles Street, 1912. The Pacific Electric Building (at left), standing about 10-stories tall, features ornamental window moldings on the top floor, an extended cornice or roof, arched windows on the second floor and the top floor, and several cornices that circle the building. Utility poles line the streets. Two pairs of streetcar rails line the street.; Legible signs included: "Family[...], The San[...]", "Oakland", "[...] Rage, 23 E. 6th St.", "[...] Auto Co.", "[...] garage, best gasoline, 20¢ per gallon", "P.E. Grill, open for commercial lunch 11 A.M. to 2 P.M., restaurant", "The Woodill Auto Co.", "The Aseptic Barber Shop, open", "The Whitaker & Ray Co., 114, removed to [...]", on a streetcar "Sixth and Main", "Los Angeles St.", "E. dining room".

Description
The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
