Description
Photograph of the street in Monrovia's Sixth Anniversary celebration, Los Angeles, ca.1892. A large American Flag sporting as of yet only 31 stars hangs down from a wire stretched across the street. Horse-drawn carriages walk to either side of the unpaved road, away from the camera to the right, and towards it to the left. A second row of carriages can be seen further back along the left side of the road, coming toward the camera along with a streetcar, which rides the tracks visible down the center of the road. Two-story victorian-style shopfronts are visible to the left and the right. Legible signs include: "Watches and Clocks", and "Real Estate / Insurance". Mountains are visible in detail in the background.
