Description
Photograph of the front street view of Dr. Tolhurst's large apartment house located at 726-730 South Figueroa Street near Seventh Street, Los Angeles, between 1903 and 1907. The 3-story structure sports 3 square towers with tile roofs. Square brick pillars support the front of the house, framing 3 walk-up porches. Two large trees grow from square gaps in the sidewalk in front. Smaller houses are visible at either side of the flats. Electric lines run overhead. The street is unpaved. According to the 1906 Sanborn Fire Insurance Map, the Tolhurst apartment building had six apartments -- 726, 726-1/2, 728, 728-1/2, 730, and 730-1/2.
