Description
Photograph of 3 Australian bottle trees (Sterculia Diversifolia) along the curb on West Colorado Boulevard, Pasadena, ca.1906. A low greenhouse is visible behind the trees which run from left to right across the image. Placards on a fence and a sign across the street read: "Hansens", "Chute's Park [...] Saturday [...] Oct. 5, grand production, Pinafore on the Lake, go people go, excellent cast, chorus of 40 voices, produced on real ship", ..."Joe Pohlim"..., ..."ade[...]est[...]staat[...]aymond [...]". These trees are native to Australia.

Description
The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
