Description
Photograph of the view looking south on Broadway (between Second Street and Third Street), Los Angeles, showing Los Angeles City Hall, ca.1888. An American flag flies from the face of the 5- or 6-story square tower on the corner of the 3-story building. About 8 horse-drawn carriages are parked at the curb in the foreground. Another moves by City Hall (in a blur). A trolley moves on tracks nearby. A few pedestrians are visible on the street and sidewalk. Utility poles and lines line the sidewalk on both sides. A palm tree and another tree are planted in the grassy yard adjacent to City Hall. Several other buildings including residences, churches, and businesses are visible in the background. The cornice of the building from which the photograph was taken is visible at top right.
