Description

Photograph of people putting at a miniature golf course, ca.1930. In the right foreground, a young woman and two boys are observable next to a mini golf course; one boy is holding a golf club who seems to be preparing to swing at a small ball. Additional mini courses are visible behind them. Further to the back, to the left, a man is bending down while holding what appears to be a water hose; next to him sits a striped swing chair and a matching striped small cabin stands in the back. Electric lamps hanging from several extended cables can be seen above the ground. A small sign is visible in the foreground that says: "No. 16-Par 2 [?]". In the background, a residential area of houses and parked automobiles is viewable behind a long wooden fence.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
