primary duty lie? To his people or his family? He was lucky enough
to be living in a city whose governor was sympathetic to Christians,
especially to churchmen. taybe his honor wanted to play safe. The
reverr@dhad a comfortable home, a beautiful wife, two lovely, healthy
sons, He had a nice little church, a devoted, admiring flock. He
could have gone to his cozy church every Sunday, delivered a little
safe, noncommital sermon, returned to his cozy home and family and
“let the rest of the world go by". He didn't have to endanger his
life and that of the other members of his family by exposure to
filth, misery, sickness, political persecution as an enemy, (American),
ally, or agent. But, even as I write these lines, I hear his voice,
and, didn't He choose to die on the cross for his ideals?"
ly friendship with little Luther grew by leaps and bounds. I
spent all my spare time with him, read to him, made up fantastic tales
about witches and giants, fairies and gobblins which he gobbled up.
But his favorite passtime was piggy-back rides. Later, many, many,
years later we met again. The old friendship that had started between
a hungry little boy on a balcony and a hungry, frightened young girl
in a courtyard was rekindled spontaneously. He probably remembered the
piggy-back rides. I was filled with admiration for the man he had
ecome - a true son of my adored Rev. Eskijian.
