Description

Photograph of Hollywood Dam, [s.d.]. An automobile sits parked in the center foreground while a grassy hill stands over the right foreground. The road which the automobile sits on curves over the top of the lightly-colored dam at center. Water pools next to the dam at left. The dam connects to the grassy mountain in the background where the road continues and winds up the mountain side to the left.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
