Photograph of first grade children building a Celotex house at Alexandria Avenue School, [s.d.]. The small house can be seen in the middle of a classroom at center. Two young boys are putting the finishing touches on the roof while standing on wooden chairs. Two more children are hammering a wooden frame on the floor in the foreground, and still more can be seen working inside the hous. Windows are visible at right, and a coat room is visible at left. Photoprint reads: "photo by Visual Education Division, Los Angeles City School District".

Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960
Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
