Photograph of an exterior view of the County Bank building on the Temple block, looking south from Temple Street on Spring Street, ca.1888-1890. The three-story rectangular stone building houses numerous offices. Parts of a few nearby buildings are also visible. One of 6 utility poles is in the right foreground. A few pedestrians and a horsedrawn wagon are visible at street level. Legible signs include: "County Bank", "Branch H[...] carr"..., "Cohn Bros.", "Temple St"..., "220, Hellman, Waldeck & Co., 220", "Books & stationery", "Holton Law Office", "Leon F. Moss, law office", "Stephen M. White, law office".

Description
The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
