Description
Photograph of an exterior view of of General M.G. Vallejo's Petaluma ranch home, 1937. The building is two stories tall with porches wrapping around both stories. A dirt road is visible at bottom running from left to right in front of the building. A wire fence with vertical wooden poles is visible between the road and building, while a tall pole is visible to the right. A small white sign is visible in front of the fence to the left of center. The sign indicates the miles and directions to certain towns, including Sonoma being located 10 miles to the right. Another sign is visible hanging from the second story roof reading, "Old Adobe". Photoprint reads: "Vallejo three great ranchos and had four homes in this area".

Description
The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
