Description

Photograph of exterior of an unidentified chemical plant, ca.1925. At center, a large chemical plant can be seen standing amid a desolate dirt field. A small wooden platform is visible beneath the building as seen near the left of the image. On the left, a small automobile sits adjacent to the structure. Two utility poles are visible further left. A single entrance is visible on the side of the large building, and roughly ten windows can be seen on its exterior. To the right of the structure, two large cylindrical tanks can be seen near a small sign. Behind the plant, a single large smokestack is visible stretching far above the building. Two pieces of large equipment can be seen to the left of the smokestack. To the right of the image, a small building and automobile are seen in the background. In the extreme foreground, small patches of vegetation cover the dirt.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
