Description
Photograph of the Ellington Drug Company, northwest corner of Fourth Street and Spring Street, Los Angeles, ca.1901. A man and a woman are walking toward the entrance. A bicycle is parked at the curb. Two floors of the brick building are visible. A row of 5 awning-shaded windows front the 2nd floor. Signs read: "Ellington Drug Co., Incorporated".; "Mr. C.C. Pierce: Dear Sir. When I was in your shop over a week ago you showed me a picture of the EllingtonDrug Co. taken many years ago. Recently I went to the Library and found this drug store listed in the 1900 and 1901 directory at 357 South Spring Street. A.W. Ellington, Prop. I looked in the 1895 directory but it was not listed. -- The number on Spring Street is on the northwest corner of 4th St. in a 2-story building that has been there as far back as I can remember. It is now occupied by a cigar store and a bookstore. -- This probably is the same building shown in your picture. -- Chas. Puck" -- from a letter, 24 December 1930, Los Angeles, California.
