Description
Photograph of a view of "E" Street (or "D" Street?) and the Stewart Hotel, San Bernardino, ca.1905. Horse-drawn vehicles are parked along both sides of the dirt street, while others travel up and down the street, which has streetcar rails in the middle of it. The street is busy with pedestrian, bicyclist, and horse-drawn carriage traffic. Most of the buildings are commercial and about two-stories high, with the exception of a hotel and a cathedral (or church) at right. Utility poles line both sides of the street. The dirt road is littered with horse manure(?).; Legible signs include: "[...] old whiskey", "New York Kitchen", "and lunch", "[po]ol room & bar", "postal telegraph, commercial cables", "rooms", "Dr. [...] Lyman Dentist", ..."estate", "walk-shoe [...] store", "Red Trent", "New York Bakery", "L.A. Times", "Examiner", "I.R. Brun[...] wholesale, wines, liquor[...]", "The Stewart Hotel", "Gen[eral] cigar [...]".
