New public housing, Ramona Gardens, Los Angeles, 1941
Description
New public housing at Ramona Gardens. The Ramona Gardens housing project was the first public housing project by the City Housing Authority. These were among several major federally funded projects to replace dilapidated housing. Four 2-story buildings are shown surrounding a courtyard with trees, lawns, and sidewalks. Six people are visible in the picture--women and children. Photo taken in August 1941. Juanita Miller, a new University of California Social Work graduate, evaluated families for eligibility to take advantage of these new homes. Photograph album page labeled "Ramona Gardens, 8-41."
