Photograph of village of Hoopuloa before lava overwhelms it after eruption of Maui Loa, Hawaii, April 1926. In the extreme foreground to the right, a small road is visible extending at a slight angle to the background. In the background at the center of the road, a small animal can be seen beside a cylindrical container and a bench. To the right of the road, two wooden houses are visible. To the left of the road, a small wooden house labeled "U.S. Post Office" in the image can be seen with an awning. On both sides of the road, lava completely envelops the village. A large wave of lava can be seen at center moving towards the road. Black smoke is visible rising from the small wooden buildings. In the extreme background, a large mountain range can be seen extending from left to right. Description at the bottom of the image reads: "Part of the little Hawaiian village of Hoopuloa before the lava overwhelmed it. Little pig on the road. 8:15AM, 1926".
