Exterior view of the mansion of Sandy Bowers, Carson City, Nevada, ca.1935

Description

Photograph of an exterior view of the mansion of Sandy Bowers, Carson City, Nevada, ca.1935. A dusty walkway leads from the foreground through the grass yard, around what appears to be a stone fountain to the double doors of the large, brick mansion. Above the doors two arched windows can be seen while eight rectangular windows can be seen in the rest of the front wall which is shaded by the trees on either side and lined with two benches as well as many small bushes. Above, four arched windows protrude from the shingled roof and a hillside can be seen in the background.
Picture file card reads "The home of Sandy Bowers, multimillionaire of the early Nevada mining days. Built in 1861 -- the costliest mansion the state of Nevada ever had -- $400,000 -- 14 rooms. Gold door knobs imported from France. Mr. Bowers died in 1868 and lies buried on the hillside behind the house".
