Description

Photograph of an exterior view of a school house on a hill in Gold Hill, Nevada, ca.1900. The school, which appears to be built in the Greek Revival style of architecture, is pictured at center at a slightly right-facing angle. Three distinct sections comprise the whole: a central portion contains the bellfry at top and the portico at bottom, while two identical sections flank it to the left and right. Farther forward, a cobblestone wall appears to fortify the hill that the school stands on, a set of steps leading up to it from lower ground. Due to mining, the ground under the building and the hill behind it were laced wtih tunnels. Photoprint reads: This school house dates from the 1870s. The ground under the building and hte hill is pierced by mining tunnels".
